Why not use the info for the account holder instead of the tax return especially with other purchases besides turbotax? RIDICULOUS! Some of your outside info is WRONG!

What are you talking about?  Can you give more details?  What are you trying to do?  Find an online account or return?

The initial screen allows VERY few characters to give detailed question.  When trying to reset password on an Intuit account I used to purchase Quicken for over a decade, and just HAPPENs to have been used to purchase Turbotax to use for my father, the reset procedure INSISTS on using all of HIS info, not mine, and much of the VERY detailed info like professional licenses, old phone numbers or even relatives info like age etc is ridiculous. My father probably doesn't even remember some of what they are asking for, and some of it is CLEARLY WRONG and associated with someone of a similar name.  Why not ask about the ACTUAL ACCOUNT holder, ie the billing/email account?  No phone number to call and talk to anyone.  We have a fairly unique last name but several VERY distant family members of the same first and last name.  This is RIDICULOUS!  How do people name John Smith ever get anything done with this system?  And just because I may get one of these stupid questions right should NOT be taken as any sort of confirmation of its accuracy, and I have NO WAY to even REVIEW let alone refute whatever incorrect information.

OH, and by the way, it took my credit card and payment without verifying my password.  Again, RIDICULOUS.

The password reset relies on the social security number of the taxpayer to pull up other identifying info.  That information is not part of the usual account registration process and is unique to tax returns.

The questions  come from credit bureaus and is an industry standard verification method.  Some of the questions may deliberately have no correct answer, choose none of the above.  Or it may be that your fathers credit report is inaccurate, he would have to follow up the the credit bureaus.

Unfortunately IRS rules for taxpayer account security require that the account be secured to the taxpayer whose returns are contained in the account.

That answer is not fully accurate.  What credit report would have my sister's age?  An address for a second cousin he never met let alone associated with?  A professional license my father had and expired at least 40 years ago that he never used in a business capacity?

I have never heard of such a thing.  This is a user-to-user discussion forum, not TurboTax support.  We are just other users and do not have access to your account information.  I suggest that you call customer service when they are open with this issue.

You can call Customer Support this way.

When asked to enter a question do not say "Refund" or you will get information about tax refunds, say "Billing Issue" or something else.

Numbers to call will only be available during business hours.

Ok. Thanks. It's sad that Intuit doesn't provide easy access to such support when they make this unrelated and inaccurate info part of the process to simply reset a password.
