E-filing is closed for 2024----you have to file it by mail.   Use a mailing service that will track it like certified mail so you will know it was received because you will have a long wait.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

That doesn't make any sense. Once efile season has opened up in 2026, you can efile the most recent three years of tax returns, including amended returns. That means you can amend and efile a return for 2023, 2024, and 2025 as long as you efiled your original return. I don't see what the problem is with efiling my 2024 amended tax return with turbotax. Efiling season is open again, it's not closed. I efiled my original return with turbotax. Since the IRS has literally been stripped of 1/3 to 1/2 of their employees, the last thing that you want to do is mail a tax return into them. I worked for them up until recently before people were fired, laid off, and forced into retirement. There were mailed tax returns that hadn't been processed for a year and longer.

Yes, you can e-file your 2024 amended tax return using TurboTax if your e-filed your original tax return using TurboTax.

I along with family members are having the same issue with e-filing an amended 24 return.

First message when attempting is the E-Filing has been closed.  You can continue and select e-filing and it will then step you through the appropriate questions.  It will also ask for today's date.   It will not accept any date past 12/31/25.

As a test I put in the date that I signed the original 1040 and then get:

According to Turbotax, I should be able to file an amended return for 2024.  I did file electronically.

Mail it.   Or....keep trying to e-file and feeling like you are beating your head against a wall.   Print it, sign it in ink, and mail it in.

I posted a picture of what exactly is happening. I just tried to efile it again five times and every single time I keep getting that same error which shows in the picture that I uploaded here. I've tried several browsers, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. It doesn't make any difference. Any help would be appreciated because I don't want to mail my amended return because the IRS has terminated so many employees.

@jp69 TurboTax has closed e-filing for a 2024 tax return and for a 2024 amended tax return as of October 2025.  The amended tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.

Why would TurbTax close the e-filing season for a 2024 amended return as of October 2025 when you're allowed to e-file an amended return for three years as long as you e-filed the original? That doesn't make any sense and is a real disservice to TurboTax customers. Per this TurboTax web page, https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/e-file-1040x-amend-return/L9t..., by TurboTax • 5448 Updated January 14, 2026 9:34 AM, says, "Generally, you can e-file your amended 2025, 2024, or 2023 federal return via TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax. However, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return." The help page does not mention at all that TurboTax closed the 2024 amended e-filing season on October 25, 2025. I don't have a unique situation. My original 2024 e-filed federal 1040 tax return was a run of the mill tax return, with no special issues. I should be allowed to e-file it through TurboTax. So, what's going on?

84 pages to mail in is not really ideal.  I will keep trying.   I heard from someone that it might be avail again in middle of month.
