If you are seeing"Accepted" in TurboTax, that is an efile term which means that within 24-48 hours after efiling, your return was accepted for processing by the IRS (or state). The IRS does not use the term "accepted" in the IRS refund lookup tool.   The IRS tool has 3 stages:

  • Return received and is being processed
  • Refund approved
  • Refund sent and an expected deposit date

If the status in TurboTax says "accepted", it will always say that.  It doesn't change since it's just the efile status.

The IRS does not use the word "accepted."

How it works

Where's My Refund shows your refund status:

  • Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
  • Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
  • Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.
