Good news (of sorts) is Amend download happened today (I want to amend my 2025 returns Fed/State that are already processed and refunds received). However, TurboTax instructions note that both Fed and State should be starting back at "0"...yet while my State shows 0, the Fed shows HUGE $$$ owed.
So what do I do now?
I tried inputting the two items I had failed to report (small long term capital gain and actually a reduction in my dividends from what I reported) but still then shows a HUGE amount of tax owed that is crazy. I did NOT save this before I exited!

Glad i'm seeing this post.. Seeing similar issues for filing status from single to married but filing separately.
I was prompted to into needing to adjust a Roth IRA Excess Contribution, went from being owed $$ to owing almost $$$ and can't even check the tax break section.

Still error on Fed tax side on amending so followed your instructions and cleared cache and cookies, then even did re download per instruction...and still shows owing $21000 federal when in reality I should owe $134 from over refunded Fed $ received (and about same to state).

Ok, so what has changed on your return? You can compare the two 1040s side by side or go to the 1040X to see what has changed. Something has changed on your tax return that is not supposed to. If you can figure out what that is you can change it back or come back here and we can try to help you fix it.
Thanks to TurboTax support person Dawn after going through line by line we found a form issue that needs to be fixed and did work around to fix. Yay. It was a 90 minute call ( she took control of my screen) and lots of work but ended up my filing electronically successfully both federal and state amendments which were accepted by both and I paid minuscule monies owed on line too. Whew.
Thanks for coming back on this Robert; I’m going to reach out to an expert next week.
The initial change was the filing status, but I know I’m also now required to move an excess contribution from my Roth to a Traditional IRA. Once I speak to fidelity I’ll circle back offline. Initially the sections were available to click through but now they’re no longer accessible.
I’ll be sure to let the wider audience know of the outcome in case they’re experiencing similar issues.
