A federal identification number is either a:
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
- Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number (ATIN)
If you are not a non-resident alien or have a pending adopted child, then number 3 and 4 will not apply to you.
If you received an information statement (e.g. Form 1099, Form W-2) then an EIN should be shown on the statement and entered into TurboTax.
Of course you will need to correctly enter your SSN. It is suggested that you review the personal info and income section of the program to ensure the correct number(s) were entered.
