Where do I go to finish my 2021 tax return. 2021 tax return and can no longer find it. When I go to the turbo tax website , it takes me to starting a 2022 return.

In order to access the 2021 return start 2022 and enter some personal information until the side menu opens up and gives you access to the past year return.  Then------

  You will be able to access the return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.

Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2021returns is now permanently closed.

Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2021 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device).Then you need to print, sign and mail it.

If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

When I follow these instructions, TT online asks me to upload my 2021 documents. Has all of the work I previously completed been lost? That would be very very upsetting?

Try this -

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2022 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download .tax file

A 2021 tax return can only be printed and mailed using TurboTax, it cannot be e-filed.

Unfortunately, I am unable to see or download the TT .tax file. At the time I entered my information (of which I Was 95% done), you did not have to pay TurboTax until it was time to file. IS there anyway I can finish this? I also just paid for the downloaded version of TT for Home and Business.

Is my 2021 .tax file lost forever because I had not paid yet? I can also provide proof that I just paid for the 2021 TT windows version?

The 2021 tax data file is not lost.

Assuming you signed onto the TurboTax online account using the same User ID that was used for creating the 2021 account, what happens when you click on Download .tax file?

The tax file should be downloaded to your personal computer in the Download directory and will have a file name of TurboTaxReturn.tax2021
