The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...
You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February, But wait until your return has been processed.
IF I understand the info correctly, about 2/17 the Amend form will be available on Turbotax...BUT you are indicating I must wait for IRS processes refund before i do? I thought the sooner I amend sooner that IRS can correctly process for refund. Also, as this impacts the State filing, does Turbotax system allow e-file amendment as well? I paid for th e-filing of my State return (the Turbotax PC version I bought at Costco including the Federal filing and access to a state return).

The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on February 19. The date is subject to change, so check on 2-19 to see if it is ready. Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.
And....just so your expectations are realistic when you amend----it takes the IRS about four months or more to process an amended return. Do not expect quick results when you amend.
I am still receiving the message: ' Amended Return will be ready by February' when I try to amend a 2025 Tax return. Are you able to amend your 2025 Turbotax return?

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/25/2026
First you said Feb 19 and now 26th....frustrating
No worries. Thank you for the update.
Today is 2/22/2026. I have downloaded the 2/19 updates. The page still says it will be ready by February, but likely sooner. Is the update you're referring to for 2026 or is it for 2027 or later?
Disregard... just now saw the bottom of the thread for 2/25 now...
Amendments are still unavailable for tax year 2025. I see now the updated post for the 25th. Can you please update the estimated date of availability on your original post, as I see I am not the only one that had that problem? Thank you.
@saleengrl the Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 tax return is currently estimated to be available on 03/04/2026
This date just keeps getting pushed further and further away. wtf is going on?
