When inputting the child tax credit payment amounts for my husband and I, TT is rounding those numbers up to the whole dollar amount, making total wrong. How do I fix?

Both my husband and I's letters show we received $562.50 each. When adding those numbers in, TT changes them both to $563 which makes the total wrong. They are notating all over that page encouraging you to enter the exact amounts so I'm afraid to leave it as is! How do I fix?

Outsmart the software.   Round one up by a dollar and round one down by a dollar so it comes out even.  Example:   10.50---round up to 11   10.50  round down to 10    you get 21 when they add together and it keeps the software happy.   And all you need is the real total to keep the IRS happy.

Only the Total advanced child tax credit received is used to calculate the refundable Child Tax Credit that is entered on your 2021 tax return.  So just enter $563 for you and $562 for your spouse so the total is correct.

You can enter 562 for one of you and 563 for the other.  The numbers will be combined to total the correct number when reported on  your return.
