When you start the amend process, the refund that is shown in TurboTax is reset to zero.

You will still get the original refund. The amended return will show the difference you owe, or that you will get back as a refund. In your case you owe nothing based on the amended return nor are you getting an additional refund based on the amended return .

Also keep in mind that amended returns have to be printed and filed by mail. It can take the IRS up to 12 weeks or longer to process them.

So I will still get the $159 for my state taxes, even though it still says my RI refund is $0?

When you filed your original return and were given a refund amount, that is the amount that you will still receive, as I stated above.  When you amend a return the refund counter resets (starts over at zero) and calculates any additional refund you are due, or any taxes owed based on the new information.  So, if you see zero owed or zero as a refund on your amended return, you just aren't due, nor do you owe, any additional funds based on your amended return.

Okay, Thank you very much!
