I SHOULD HAVE SAID I COULD BE CLAIMED AS A DEPENDENT

Did you say you could not be claimed as someone else’s dependent, but it turns out your parent(s) can claim you?  Now your parents’ return is being rejected when they e-file, or it will be rejected.  That means your parents must print, sign, and mail their return.  They can still claim you as a dependent, but they cannot e-file now.  Not even if they wait for you to amend, so they should not wait for you to do that.

Your part in fixing this is to wait until your return has been fully processed and you have received you refund.  THEN you need to file an amended return, called a 1040X, to change the way you answered that question in My  Info about whether you can be claimed as someone else’s dependent.

Oh----and if you got stimulus money for saying you could not be claimed then you will have to pay it back.

@9f730842b967 If your parents filed first and their return was accepted, then yours is going to be rejected.   When it rejects, you can fix it and re-file.   You will have to go to My Info and change the way you answer the question about whether you can be claimed as a dependent.  And then thank your lucky stars you did not mess up your parents' tax return.

BOTH returns were accepted?   Are you sure your parents claimed you?   You say you are 19----were you 19 at the end of 2021?   Were you a full-time student in 2021?   If not a student---did you have more than $4300 of income in 2021?

If you are a full-time student then your parents CAN claim you and it was a mistake for you to say you cannot be claimed.   You will need to amend and pay back the $1400.   You cannot amend until the return has been fully processed.  The Form 1040X you will need becomes available late February/mid March.
