@janelich79 asked: "What happens if I never received a notice and my refund hasn’t been accepted?"
Are you expecting a notice? Has your refund been delayed at the IRS?
Did you use the word "accepted" (an efile status term) when you actually meant the refund hasn't been approved? There is a difference between "accepted" (an efile status term) and "approved" (the final result after the IRS finishes processing.) Since no details were provided, here are some things you should check.
How did you file your return? Did you efile, or did you choose to print and mail the return? If you filed by mail, it can take at least 6 weeks to get a Federal refund.
If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
Here's how to check. If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home. What is shown there--does the efile status show your efiling was accepted, rejected, printed, started, or what?
If you efiled, and if the Tax Home page showed that the efiled return was accepted for processing by the IRS, you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund
What do you see there?
NOTE: When using that tool, use only the Federal refund amount, and not any total refund amount that includes a state refund. The amount to use is on your Federal Form 1040, Line 35a.
If the IRS tool says it is still being processed, and if it's been longer than 21 days since an efiled return was accepted, here's how to reach a live IRS agent to inquire about the delay:
IRS: 800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
