What does it mean to co own a loan,. I.e mortage

If you are a "co-owner", that means you are a co-borrower. 

You and the other person are both listed on the mortgage documents as "borrowers" and  are both equally responsible for the repayment of the loan.

(The same logic would apply if you and another person were co-lenders).
