Please clarify. Which state were you supposed to file an income tax return with, KY or KS?

Normally, I have sent returns to Kansas City, but 2020 return using Turbo Tax said to send return to Kentucky. I know my return was received in KY because I sent it certified and also received a letter from IRS in Fresno questioning an entry. What should I do with the letter from Kansas City saying I will lose credit if I don’t file?

Call the IRS on the number listed on your letter. If your letter does not have a number, call 1-800-829-1040. Be aware. The phone lines are backed up. The IRS opens at 7AM local time in every time zone. The earlier you call, the better your chance of speaking with someone.

The IRS should have a record of your filing. They may want you to send a copy of your return. It's possible, even though you have proof of delivery, that your return was misplaced or still hasn't been processed.

Received means the IRS received it. It doesn't mean they've looked at it. They are still going through 2020 returns.
