What can cause a delay in seeing refund to being approved. I filed on January 31 and nothing is showing on IRS website. others that I know filed on February 1st and already see when their refund will

There could be any number of reasons for this - multi state income, error in what was reported, or differences in what was sent to the IRS versus what was completed on the tax form.  Also, it can be from a backlog of filings. You can call them but be prepared to wait on hold for quite some time (45 minutes +/-)
