Unemployed student, recently relocated to a new state. After filing, it shows that I owe taxes in the new state I am living in, have not received income. How is this so?

I have not received any income since I moved to the new state.

Delete the state if you have no reason to file, if you have no income from that state.

Here are the steps for deleting unwanted forms in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open your return in TurboTax. (To do this, sign in to TurboTax, and select the Take me to my return button.)
  2. In the left side bar, select Tax Tools> Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet and follow the onscreen instructions.

Can I still do this if it has already been filed and accepted?

No, it is too late. You would need to do this before you pay and before you file.

So what steps would I need to make to fix this?

You will have to amend that state now. At the beginning, you are asked if you lived in any other state. You would say yes. If you earned any money, then no. You will have to change whatever income shows to zero.

Am I able to amend that state return tax online through TurboTax? If so, where can I find that? Or do I have to visit my local IRS office?

Yes, through TurboTax.
You can amend returns that have been accepted by the IRS. If your return is pending, you won't be able to make any changes until it's accepted or rejected by the IRS. If you don't know your e-file status, we can help you check it.
Select a tax year for specific amending instructions.
Keep in mind: You have 3 years from the date you filed your return (or 2 years after you paid the tax due, whichever is later) to file an amended return, which means you don't have to get it done by the April 15 filing deadline.
