The 2024 amended tax return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.
File it by mail. E-filing for 2024 is permanently closed. Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know it was received since you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

I reiterate what I saw here earlier:
Is there something I am missing ?
According to the post here:
The post that you are referring to is for Intuit's professional software.
Generally, you can e-file your amended 2024 return using TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax but there are some instances were you won't be able to e-file. Refer to the TurboTax article Can I e-file my federal Form 1040-X amended return?
Yeah, not true. I'd love to find someone who can help me e-file my 2024 1040X through TurboTax. They keep going to "2024 season is closed".
There's no rush to submit your 2024 Amended return. It takes up to 12 weeks to process, whether Efiled or Mailed. When mailing, just send the 1040X and any documents relating to changes you made (W-2, 1099's).
The 2024 1040X is not usually available for Efile until well into the 2025 filing season. Clear your Cache and Cookies between attempts, and make sure the Filing Date is the current date.
Thank you for respond.
Does this mean:
1. To amend my 2024 return I would have to wait until after the taxes are filed for 2025? I am using desktop application so the clearing of the cookies/cache does not apply.
2. By the same token, should we not be able to file Amendment for 2022 Tax return? I am not able to do the same on the desktop versionof the software.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, yes, you can prepare a 2024 or 2022 Amended Return on your computer. Be sure to save a copy of your originally submitted return before starting your Amendment. You can mail your 1040X along with any documents (W-2's, 1099's,) related to changes you made.
Here's more detailed info on Amending a Federal Return.
The question has always been "How do we use Turbotax Desktop software to eFile ammendments?"
Generally you should be able to efile an amendment, however, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.
"article" is a generous term
this is devoid of any useful information. Plus, the barrier to efiling is not that there is some specific circumstance in my situation that prevents it. All I get is that the filing period closed in 2025. It seems to forget this is an amended return and not a new file of 2024 taxes.
I agree. There appears to be something wrong with TurboTax 2024, like a bug or something. I think the IRS had a rules change in May 2025 that maybe didn't get updated properly in TT2024. Another possibility is I made a copy of my "first_try.tax2024" file and then renamed it to "amended.tax2024" and started from there. Maybe the change in filename caused TT to misidentify the filing status of the original. Either way, it's doing something that it shouldn't be doing.
Per Gemini on 3/26/2025 to the question in the subject line above:
Yes, the IRS is accepting electronic amended returns (Form 1040-X) for 2024 tax returns now that the system has reopened for the 2026 filing season following the maintenance/shutdown period
