For 2021 taxes, my husband and I just received a Form CP11 from IRS, stating they found an error on our taxes submitted through TurboTax (TT) Premier. The IRS doesn't specify the reason for the error, instead they offer 5 possible options. By process of elimination, I believe it's because of AGI exceedance of federal limits for the Recovery Rebate Credit. This is surprising, as we input all our stimulus checks into TT software and were offered a credit, which we took, yet the IRS found error in taking that credit. Glitch in the software? Multiple calls to IRS for clarification yielded nothing, cannot even get a call back. Multiple calls to TurboTax yielded little more (TT won't even look at our forms; instead they just said sorry, you can request a product refund but we won't talk to you about a possible error on our end). This is abysmal customer service on TT's end, which is surprising, and on IRS's end, which really isn't. Clearly, on our forms the AGI exceeds federal limits for the Recovery Rebate Credit yet TT software offered us a credit anyway. Now we're paying the IRS another $1000 that we didn't plan for. We've used TT for about 12 years now or more, but we will look elsewhere next year.
Have others encountered this?? Have you been able to resolve it better than we did??
