Turbotax desktop Mac won't efile 2025 amended 1040-X

I have a small change that impacts the capital loss on Sch D and form 8949.  It doesn't impact form 1040 at all, nor any refund or anything.  It slightly lowers the total capital loss that was over $3k, so that is why it only impacts Sch D and 8949.  I already took the max $3k loss on 1040.  This is all due to an unexpected corrected 1099B i got.  It only lowers the capital loss by a measly $11.

I have started an amended return in TurboTax desktop Mac.  The same program used to prepare and efile both federal and state 2025 returns.  For some reason the program won't let me efile the federal amendment, its forcing me to print and mail it in.  Its like 41 pages.  Why won't it let me efile the amendment??  It seems to want to efile the state amendment ok.  But it won't even give an option to efile the federal one and won't give a reason as to why.  It should be able to do this as advertised.

Turbotax desktop Mac won't efile 2025 amended 1040-X

According to the individual forms lookup tool, Form 1040X is available for print and e-file in the Mac desktop software; so your first step in troubleshooting should be to verify that your Mac software is up-to-date:

Updating help

  • Make sure you're running the program from the Applications folder, not from a mounted virtual drive or CD (if installing tax year 2023 or a previous version).
  • Wireless connections can be problematic. We recommend updating over a wired, broadband connection.
    • If you don't have access to broadband, try restarting your wireless router.
  • Empty the Trash.
  • Force the update to download and install.
  • If you're still having problems, turn off your computer, then your router, and lastly your modem, in that order.
    • Wait a minute or two, then turn your modem back on.
    • Wait another minute, then turn your router back on.
    • Once your router is back up, turn your computer back on and try updating again.

Forcing an update:

If you want to make sure you're up to date, quit and reopen TurboTax. If you're not on the latest release, the program will automatically download it.

If that doesn't work, you can force a download of the most recent update.

  1. Open TurboTax and select the TurboTax menu.
  2. On your keyboard, hold down the Option key.
  3. This will change the Check for Updates menu option to Download Latest Updates...
  4. Select this option to force the most recent update for TurboTax to download and install.

From there, you'll want to log back into the software, and see if the issue has been resolved. If additional issues persist, you may need to temporarily disable your firewall and/or antivirus software, as these are known the interfere with TurboTax.

Turbotax desktop Mac won't efile 2025 amended 1040-X

Thank you for the reply but none of this is of any help.  My desktop for Mac software is up to date as of March 1.  I just updated today.  That was how I was even able to do the 1040-X return for 2025 tax year.  I know its available for print and efile.  It just became available recently.  The problem is the program won't even let me efile the federal 1040-X.  But it will allow me to efile the state amended return (gives me the option).

I want to efile the federal one too!!  And it has nothing to do with my internet connection.  I can connect just fine.  That is how i downloaded the dang update today on March 1.

And yes, I am running the program from the Applications folder.  That's how modern Macs work.  CDs aren't a think anymore.
