I had to file an amended Illinois tax return. I originally paid $37. As a result of my amended return, I owed an additional $51 and turbo tax showed this. Before e-filing my amendment, I previewed/printed my IL return and it showed I owed $51. I then proceeded to e-file my amended IL state return and then printed it. It then showed that what was submitted was a return where $0 was owed! On the form, line 31 (total amount paid w/original return $88 ($37+$51)). Why? I didn't pay the $51 previously and my current amended return and e-filing was supposed to pay the $51. Why did turbo tax file a return stating I owed nothing and $51 was previously paid? And why did it change it from the time I previewed the return to the time I e-filed, seconds later?

It's uncertain and unclear why the payments changed. The Illinois (IL) amendment should be corrected using Forms in TurboTax Desktop Windows so that the amount paid with your original return, on line 31, Form IL-1040-X is correct. Once you complete this you can file your amended return to pay the correct balance due.
Thanks for your response. After the first time it filed my amended return with Zero Due, and it was rejected by Illinois, I did in fact go back and change the amount due in Forms line 31. I e-filed it again, and AGAIN, turbo tax changed the amount due to zero. And of course it was also rejected by Illinois because it said I previously filed and was accepted by IL. I'm assuming it was rejected because the amended return showed zero due. so there that issue also where I can't even get a return accepted by IL. But i guess that's good since the return where zero due is incorrect anyway. I wish Turbo Tax would respond here and figure out why the software is changing my return from $51 due to zero due.
Is it possible that your form is showing zero due because you have already accounted for payment of the additional amount due on the Illinois Form 1040-X?
