Turbo Tax can create a 1099-MISC, I assume for you to print a copy for your contractor, but can TT also file the 1099 with the IRS to meet the Jan 30th deadline?

I want to be sure that Turbo Tax can create 1099-MISC forms that will serve two purposes, one to create a copy to send to the contractor, but also to file with the IRS which precludes the need to mail them a copy along with a 1096 form.

Yes, you can use the ONLINE version of Quick Employer Forms to create 1099 MISC forms for your contractors.  You will need to print copies of the forms to send to your recipients (contractors), as well as the state government (if required).  Plus, the federal copies can be e-filed through this program.  Here is a link to more information.  You can sign in using your TurboTax ID.  Be sure to check your state web-site for their requirements.

Note, that if you are accessing the option to "prepare W-2/1099" from within the TurboTax Home and Business software, you will want to select the ONLINE option to create the forms, as the desktop option will not have the option to e-file a copy to the federal government for you.

Yes but you have to use the Quick Employer Forms not the built in Desktop program.

In the Window's Home & Business Desktop program to Prepare W2s or 1099s, go to Start a New Return or File-New Return.

Then on the next screen it asks What would you like to do?

Check the circle that says Prepare W-2s and 1099s for my employees or contractors.  Then that will expand and give you a choice to prepare them online or on your computer.  Only the online Quick Employer Forms efiles them to the IRS.  See screen shot

The screen shot above was for 2017.  See 2018 screen shots I added to this post
