TT is showing incorrect amounts on amended return for the State

I filed my 2021 taxes under an extension and had to make payments in 2022 at the time the 2021 extension was filed.  These payments were about $1,500 Fed and $4700 State.  My original 2022 return that I recently filed included (incorrectly) these payments made with the Extensions as Estimated Taxes paid.   This incorrectly resulted in about $700 taxes due for the feds and $2500 refund for state, which I applied to my 2023 state taxes.  Now that I have discovered my error, I am trying to file an amended return for both.  When I removed both of the Extension payments amounts from the Estimated Taxes Section, TT showed the correct additional amount due for the Feds, which is exactly the amount of the removed payment ($1,500).  However, TT is showing the State additional payment as the full amount of the removed payment ($4,700), when it should be $2,500 (refund)-$4,700 new taxes=$2,200 due.  Do anyone know how I can correct this in TT?  I have looked at the TT amendment section for 2 hours and can't make it show the correct amount.  Please help!  Thanks.

TT is showing incorrect amounts on amended return for the State

Everyone,

I got this figured out.  The PDF (and source data) in TT is correct.  However, the little preview windows at the top of the screen (with red or green text) are wrong, since they assume that refunds are already received and paid even if you applied it to a future return.   So, everyone should be aware that the little windows at the top of the screen (with red or green text) on the can show incorrect numbers when you do an Amended Return depending on what you selected for your refund option.

Never pay attention to the Refund-O-Meter when amending the return ... it will only confuse you.

Look at the form 1040X …

Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.

If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:

On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. If you paid nothing already then this line should be zero.

On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.  If you have not received your refund yet then you need to wait for it.  If the refund changes from what you expected then this line must reflect that change.

Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR  the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
