Trying to access my 2018 return (just did a couple months ago) and cannot - it keeps taking me to my 2019 return. Need the pdf version of my 2018 and can'tget?

If you just did 2018 a couple months ago you had to use the Desktop program.  The Online version is ONLY for 2019 (since last November).  If you use the Online version you actually filed it on 2019 forms so the IRS thinks it was your 2019 return and you have a big problem.

If you used the Desktop program the only copy is on your computer and not saved online.

Yes---if you used the online program for a 2018 return, you have made a big mistake.  Online is only for 2019--so if you used the online program you used the wrong software and the wrong tax forms.  If you did that, "maybe" the IRS will catch the mistake--but they are so backlogged, there is no telling if or when they might catch it.  If they finally process the incorrect return and you get the refund, you have to amend, because you messed up.  If you did not file a 2019 return you could amend that messed up return by deleting the 2018 income and putting in your 2019 income.  But do not try to amend until you know what the IRS has done with the return you filed.

If you still need to file a 2018 return the correct way:

Online preparation and e-filing for 2016, 2017 and 2018 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2016, 2017, or 2018 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
