It would have been free IF you used the Free Edition and IF you had no need for any of the six possible extra schedules that were part of the 2018 Form 1040. But that was a year ago. I used the same I did in 2017 that was free, I remember I tried to do it for free but there was no option, they didn’t make it clear plus the order is divided in 2 parts:
federal return with TurboTax deluxe 39.99 and California state 39.99.
california state should be the same I used this year and on 2017 and it was free
