To get the 2018 tax refund I paid 79.98 but I found out later that it was supposed to be free as my income was less then 34000$. How can I be refunded?

It would have been free IF you used the Free Edition and IF you had no need for any of the six possible extra schedules that were part of the 2018 Form 1040.  But that was a year ago.  And apparently you used a paid version of the software and filed a return.  They will not refund you.  But if you want to have a discussion with customer support you certainly can:

And actually there are 2 different free versions.

For the 34,000 low income free version you had to use the Free File program, you had to start it at a special website at 

https://freefile.intuit.com/

If you had asked before paying we would have told you about both of the Free Editions.  So for 2019 and the future check it out.

I used the same I did in 2017 that was free, I remember I tried to do it for free but there was no option, they didn’t make it clear plus the order is divided in 2 parts:

federal return with TurboTax deluxe 39.99 and California state 39.99.

california state should be the same I used this year and on 2017 and it was free
