I am trying to claim the U.S. Biomass Tax Credit (Section 25C) for qualifying high-efficiency stoves and fireplaces installed on or after January 1, 2025. I qualify for the $2,000 for spending $8,500 for a biomass stoves in 2025. My original federal filing correctly posted a $2,000 tax credit without any problem. However, I need to file an amendment because i missed a 1099-G form. The amended return removed the $2,000 credit and shows $2,000 federal due. All entries match the original return. The credit is 30% of the total costs up to a maximum of $2000. There is a possible bug in the 2025 Turbotax Amend calculation. Without making any changes the amended return returns a net change to my Adjusted gross income, Taxable Income, Tax before Credits, Line 7 - credits, Line 11 Total Taxes.

From my experience so far, I don’t think that’s exactly a bug in the amendment part. I think it’s a bug they introduced in a program update recently, related to applying the 30% energy credit in certain categories.
In my case, I had prepared my taxes a couple of weeks ago, and they were pretty much completed, but I didn’t file them yet. A 30% credit for my heat pump electric water heater was in there correctly and my return showed a refund.
When I opened the program yesterday and it was updated automatically with new software updates, suddenly that credit was gone, and I couldn’t make it come back, even by deleting and entering the data again.
So I think it’s the update that introduced the bug. I spent an hour on the phone with TurboTax customer service yesterday and they put in a report, but I don’t know when or if it will be fixed on the next update
We're currently working on an update to form 5695. A potential calculation error has been identified on the federal return related to the Form 5695, Energy Efficient Home Improvement section, specifically the Enabling Property group.
This return can't be filed at this time due to a processing error. The fix is scheduled for March 6, 2026.
@obikabe wait until after March 6th to complete your amendment.
@CatinaT1 and @Tina101 . I would like to thank you for the response. I spent over 3 hours trying to understand why this was happening... I was suddenly owing $2,000 in federal tax by simply amending my 2025 taxes for an unrelated missing tax form. I feel much better now and will wait for the update to be made. Hopefully it is resolved. Please note from my original post it was not just the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. The missing credit was the big change but there were other processing errors which i listed in my original post.
