 Does "portal" refer to the desktop TurboTax interface, or are you looking at your Online TurboTax account?  A *.tax2024 data file prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account.

If  desktop TurboTax is what you mean by "portal", then by "not showing" are you referring to the large rectangular shortcut icons once the 2024 program launches?  If the shortcut to the 2024 tax file is dissociated from the interface, it will appear there again once you open the 2024 data file when you find it.

If you used desktop TurboTax software for the 2024 return, was it the Mac or Windows version? 

 In Windows, the default folder for the tax data file is the Documents\TurboTax folder, but you could have saved it somewhere else.

Search your entire system for any file ending in *.tax2024 and also check the Recycle Bin.

If you are using Windows and have multiple Windows user accounts (such as Admin, etc.), do the searches from within each one of those user accounts.

Also check external storage and any cloud storage you use.  I have seen a couple of rare user anecdotes where the tax data file ended up unexpectedly in OneDrive.

And here's a tip:

       Once you find the *.tax2024 data file, before amending it you should make a backup copy of it, and name it something that marks it as the original.   For example, something like 2024taxreturn_original.tax2024, or whatever you prefer.   Then, if you mess something up when you prepare your amended return, you'll have the original unaltered tax data file to go back to.  You may wish to also make a backup PDF of the original return as well, with a distinguishing name such as 2024taxreturn_original.PDF, or whatever you prefer.  The PDF makes for easier viewing over the years, since it doesn't require the software.  And the PDF can come in handy down the road if you lose access to the software, which could happen after 3-4 years when the license no longer works.   TurboTax only supports the current year and the last 3 product years.

NOTE:  Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

Hello all, my question seems to be misunderstood. I need to amend my 2024 tax return, and the TurboTax desktop app is asking for a .tax2024 file to start the amendment process.   I already checked all the locations in my system, but couldn't find it

I reached out to TurboTax customer care, but couldn't help it. Is there any specific way I can get this tax file from TurboTax (the TurboTax website (not app) is showing tax files for past years, 2023, 2022, and so on, but not showing for 2024)

@subhas You must have the TurboTax desktop software for tax year 2024 installed so that you can open the .tax2024 tax data file.

TurboTax will, by default, store the tax data file in TurboTax folder within the Documents directory.  If it is not in the folder you need to search all hard drives, cloud drives and any USB drives you may have attached.  Also check the Recycle Bin when using Windows OS.

TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

It sounds like you prepared years 2022 and 2023 in Online TurboTax.  Were you a long-time Online user and switched to desktop software for the 2024 return?   If you prepared your 2024 return in desktop TurboTax software, it will not be in an online account.    When we provided instructions on how to search for the 2024 tax data file, we're assuming you prepared the 2024 return in 2024 desktop software.   If that's not correct, and if you prepared the 2024 in Online TurboTax, we can tell you how to look for multiple online accounts.
