The software cannot change what you entered. Did you look at the My Info section of the program before you filed the tax return?
Apparently I found a glitch in the software. IT says they have fixed it, so hopefully no one else will experience the same thing.
Still occurring filed last night and checked this afternoon, all of my spouse's information has been deleted, and swapped me to single.
In the MY INFO section, did you indicate that you 'want to file jointly with your spouse?' If you're using TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and recheck.
In TurboTax Desktop, try a Manual Update.
Still happening. I'm extremely frustrated, I was literally about to file, went to update my middle initial in 'My Info' and it somehow changed my file to 'single' and deleted my spouse's information, ruined the refund calculations. I can't even find a way to switch to joint to start over. Not that I even want to bother but I've already wasted 5 hrs (and already paid TurboTax) just to start over again.
Update! Since I knew what to ask for, IT was able to walk me through how to fix it. They think updating the middle name on joint filings is glitching the system for some states. The process was basically; Logout, clear your cache, log back in using Chrome preferred. Go to Your Info/My Info and walk through the process to select joint and reinsert your spouse's info, just a couple windows of basic info and the rest was fine. I think originally when I went to edit My info it wouldn't let me get past the first page to edit to filing married joint. Good luck out there! Hope this saves others some time not having to wait for IT (although they were great)
Happened to me too, right before I was about to submit. Had to go back to my info and add my spouse again.
