The PA-40 state tax refund that was done with Turbo Tax has a much larger refund than when I do the PA-40 by hand (takes 3 minutes). Is there a bug with the s/w?

I know the form that I filled out is correct, but the Turbo tax amount is incorrect.  $39 versus $6.20

You need to compare each form line to line and see where there is a difference. If you can clarify specifically what is different on the form prepared with TurboTax then we may be able to provide an explanation.

My Income for PA is NOT correct. I have over 1000 transactions on 1099 MISC- PA forms don't have enough income

I did a mock return for Pennsylvania and all 1099-MISC forms had their income reported on PA 40.  The one thing that I did notice is that each 1099-MISC had to be edited to enter required Pennsylvania information.  From what I read on your posting, I wasn't sure if you had 1000 transactions reported on one 1099-MISC or if your had 1000 1099-MISC forms.  Do you know if your Federal income from the 1099-MISC is being reported correctly?  If so, the same amount should be carrying over to your Pennsylvania return as well.  Were you able to edit the 1099-MISC forms on your Pennsylvania return to show the type of income it was?  There is also a checkbox for each of the 1099-MISC entries for PA in TurboTax to make it non-taxable - if any of those are checked accidentally, that could be throwing off the calculation of the correct amount of income.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please reply back with as much detail as possible as that will help us to better help you.

> 1000 Option Transactions on a single 1099 MISC. I hope Federal is Ok - I do NOT think PA is correct.

If you had options like calls and puts, those are typically reported on a 1099-B and not a 1099-MISC - there wouldn't be any correct way to report those on a 1099-MISC.

If you did have a 1099-B with over a 1000 transactions on it, it would be best to report those using the sales summary from each section rather than importing all the transactions - this might give you more assurance in the numbers that are being reported to the Federal and state authorities.

No. the same amount is NOT being carried over from Federal income to PA income- Capital Gains missing? Not correct.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number  (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)
