Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

The IRS refund tracker says my refund is "still being processed" but turbotax says return status: accepted. The refund is several weeks past the turbotax est. delivery.

It has been 32 days since the refund was accepted. Should I be worried since I've heard anything over 21 days for an electronic delivery is rare?

Well, if it had not been accepted by the IRS, then it would be impossible for it to be in process. You just have to wait. The more complex a return is, the longer it can take. Just because the IRS has accepted a tax return, does not in any way mean they agree with it. They may also be waiting on documentation from those that paid you too. For example, if you reported W-2 income they could still be waiting for your employer to send them their copy of the W-2 they issued to you. There's any number of reasons. But my point is, youi have to be patient. Remember, the IRS is expected to process more than three hundred million returns in just 90 days. Some will take longer that others for various reasons, and  yours may just be one of those "some".

The IRS says 9 out of 10 filers who efile and choose direct deposit will get their refunds within 21 days. That still leaves a considerable number of people who do not.  Some returns take longer for additional processing due to specific items in the return.  Some are pulled at random for more thorough investigation.

If that IRS "Where's My Refund" tool above shows that your Federal return has been processing longer than 21 days, if you want to, you can phone the IRS to see if you can learn anything about the delay.

Listen to each menu before making the selection.

First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

  • Then do NOT choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
  • Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."  It should then transfer you to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.
I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.
