The IRS has a record of receiving my tax documents, but cannot figure out where it is now. My refund is $2K. Do I just refile?

I sent them in March and keep getting the run-around.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by they have a "record"

Was your return accepted when you filed it?

What does your filing status say?

You can check your TurboTax filing status here:

You can check the IRS Where's My Refund website:

When I've spoken to someone on the phone the last two times, they say that they see that my returns were accepted.  That it was sent to one place, and then in early May, sent to be processed.  However, now they cannot see where it went and it is not being processed according to their system.  I sent the files in via USPS.  I got a letter from the IRS saying they received my documents, but needed more time to review.  Because I didn't efile with Turbo -- just used the system and then printed and sent (because I had to also send a letter), I cannot check with the efile.  The "Where is my refund" link only returns a message of "we cannot tell you anything about your return".

No, you do not refile.

You can phone the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service and see if they can assist you with this.   Explain to them what all has happened with the IRS receiving your documents then sending you the IRS letter that they were going to review it, and the difficulty you are having in getting any information or results from the IRS.   Mention that you have already talked to the IRS a couple of times.

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
