I seriously doubt that anyone stole your tax refund.
The answer to your question lies in the word "scheduled." The IRS exercises absolutely no control over the timing of events outside its own agency. If you are expecting a refund check, the IRS sends an order to the US Treasury to print and mail a check. That check then enters the US Postal Service along with millions of other pieces of mail each day. It may take several days to reach you from one of two site at which the Treasury issues paper checks.
If you are expecting a direct deposit, the uncertainty of mail delivery is taken out of the equation, as electronic orders to banks and credit unions to deposit money to a customer's account move instantaneously. However, individual financial institutions have their own processing schedules, and an incoming direct deposit may take anywhere from minutes to 2 or 3 business days to actually be posted to your account. As I said earlier, all of this happens far outside the control of the IRS. Please be patient.
