.tax2024 not fully imported into TurboTax 2025

My Turbotax 2025 Home and Business on a Mac is not fully importing data from my .tax2024 file. What I see in TurboTax 2025 is just my basic info and some depreciation; I made a profit in 2024 but it shows a net loss. Also expenses from 2024 are gone.

This has never happened before in years past when I've used TurboTax. Is there a software update in process?

Please advise.

P.S.... The drop down below for Platform needs an option for Mac; I had to choose "I Don't Know".   In the product drop down menu, there's no "Home and Business" option. Lord, who's running this company?

.tax2024 not fully imported into TurboTax 2025

I was able to bring up my 2024 return into the 2025 program on my Mac, though it didn't show up in the list of returns to bring over in TurboTax - I had to search for it in Finder and drag it into the TurboTax window to select it. However, once I did that everything was there.

Is it possible you selected an older unfinished version of 2024 to bring up in the 2025 program? or that the one you wanted to select had been overwritten?

On a Mac, you may be able to recover an overwritten TurboTax file by using Time Machine backups or the "Revert To" feature in the Finder. If no local backup exists, you cannot recover the file from TurboTax directly.

Here are some options to try:

  • Time Machine Backup: If you use Time Machine, open the folder where the file was stored, open Time Machine from the menu bar, and go back to a time before you saved the blank form to restore the older version.
  • "Revert To" (If the file is still open): In TurboTax, check File > Revert To to see if a previous save point is available.
  • Search for File Backups: Search your Mac for files ending in .tax or .tax202X to see if a backup was automatically created.
  • Check Email/Downloads: If you filed, you likely saved a PDF version during the filing process. Check your Downloads folder or email for the completed return.
  • Use Prior Year File: If the current year return you were working on can't be restored, and you have the previous year's .tax file, you can import that data to help rebuild the current return.

See this long thread for transferring on Mac. Read from the beginning. Many different ways are working for Mac users.

In TurboTax 2025 for desktop, select File > New Tax Return. Then click on the blue 'Browse' and locate your .tax2024 file in the browse window. Double-click it and it should open in the 2025 program.

The easiest thing to try first is just quit Turbo Tax and reopen it.
The next thing to try is open 2024 in the 2024 program and let the program update. Then save your return.

Some users say to try to OPEN your 2024 return in the 2025 program. Then the program asks if you want to tranfer it.

Thank you for the tips. I have the return in PDF so I may just reenter the numbers to recreate the 2024 return. I feel like I've spent half a day trying to figure this out.

I can open the 2024 return in TT2024 but the numbers have bizarrely disappeared.
