Tax Refund Five Months Late

Hi,

My tax return was sent in and accepted in February 5. I received my state refund almost immediately. For my federal return, I received a form to fill out for my health insurance tax credit that I had been eligible for—as TurboTax gave no option to enter this information, I had no idea how to file for it. After I filled out the form that I received and a Schedule C, I should have received a bigger refund...however it has been five months and I have no way to contact the IRS to find out the problem. I cannot track my refund on the IRS’s “Where’s My Refund” tool, or the “Where’s My Amended Refund?” tool. There is no way to contact the IRS online, and due to Coronavirus, when I call their phone answering system is an endless maze of options that do not include my question and never leads to a real person. And I mean NEVER. Tax help providers listed on IRS.gov are no longer providing this service.

What do I do?

Tax Refund Five Months Late

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
