Submitted an amended return (state and fed) on 5/26. Received confirmation and refund from state, nothing from feds, nothing on IRS site. What should I expect from feds?

I understand it may take a while to get my refund, but I have no confirmation that my return was even received, and the IRS site shows nothing.

Do not expect quick results from an amended federal return.  It can take six months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

You can watch for information here:

I already checked the IRS site. There is no record of my amended return, not even that they received it. When I sent my original return I at least got a confirmation that it had been accepted. How can I be sure that TurboTax transmitted it and that the IRS received it?

I understand it will take a while to get it processed, but at this point I don't even know if they have it.

Thanks,

Marilyn

@mshollin If you e-filed your amended return you should be able to see in your account whether the amended return was accepted or rejected.   If you sent it by mail, you should have used a mailing service with tracking in order to get confirmation that they received it.

Make sure you are using the site for amended returns if you are looking on the IRS site:

Where in my account can I see if the return was accepted? I looked in My Account but didn't find anything.

And yes, I've been checking that site, and nothing.

Thanks,

Marilyn

@mshollin If you e-filed the 2022 federal amended tax return, Form 1040-X. you would have received an email from TurboTax when the return was either Accepted or Rejected by the IRS.  Look in your email account inbox or the spam/junk mail folder for the notice.

If you printed, signed, dated and mailed the federal amended return it will take about 3 weeks after mailing before the status will be available on the IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
