Student filed 1098T but did not receive credit, she is dependent of ours. Then I started doing our taxes and realized we can claim 1098T on our taxes.
I did our daughters taxes today, she is student and got 1098T.
We claim her as a dependent. I put the 1098T on her taxes, she did not receive any credit for it. He refund stayed the same after I entered it. Her taxes were easy and we efiled them. She made $ 10,000 last year and is full time student.
It asked if she was claimed by someone else as a dependent and I clicked yes.
So it knows she is claimed by someone else.
Then I realized we could enter the 1098T information on our taxes because she is our dependent. Can I enter the 1098T information on our taxes or will that get either of us into trouble? We could sure use the credit but dont' want to slow down her refund or ours. Help please Thank you

Yes, if you answered the interview questions correctly, and checked that she will be claimed by someone else, the program would not have given her the education credit and you can enter the 1098-T on your return.
It will not be problematic for you or your child if you entered the data from the 1098-T while doing his/her return, as long as you stated that he/she was a dependent.
If you are worried, check the student's return and make sure Form 8863 does not show a credit.
