State tax refund for 2023 applied to 2024.

I did not use Turbo Tax last year, however when I filed my 2023 tax return for Illinois, I had a refund that I applied towards my 2024  state tax return. How do I show that on my 2024 tax return?

Here is how you can include your 2023 overpayment for Illinois applied to 2024 in TurboTax Online:

1. Navigate to  Federal > Deductions & Credits > Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Income Taxes Paid > Start or Revisit
2.  On the Income Taxes Paid screen, choose 2023 Refund Applied to 2024 > 2023 refund applied to 2024 state taxes > Start or Revisit
3. The next screen will ask How much of your 2023 state refund did you apply to your 2024 state taxes?, select Illinois and enter the amount of overpayment you applied to 2024 from 2023.

Mindy's example is from the Online product. The CD/download product is a little different (although the same general idea).

Navigate to Deductions & Credits->Estimates and Other Taxes Paid->Other Income Taxes, and under the subheading "2023 Refund applied to 2024 state taxes", click on Start or Update and you will get a screen very similar to what Mindy showed you above. Choose your state and enter the amount.

What do you mean "you didn't get the prompt"? What prompt?
