It is not automatic that you get a full refund of everything you paid in. The reason that there is withholding in the first place is to pay any tax liability you might have. If there is any left over, that amount is your refund.

When asking Turbotax to explain my taxes at the end, it does not show the child tax credit. Income is far less than the set figure but it doesnt show. Why?
