The 1095-A lists all of the people in your household who had coverage through the marketplace in the past. It also tells you how much money was spent on subsidizing that coverage. You can not change the 1095-A by modifying your tax return. It can only be changed at the source.
If your son had coverage on the 1095-A as well as coverage through his employer during 2023 then he had extra insurance. Changing your tax return does not change that.
You can amend your tax return to remove the coverage that your son had by changing the numbers to reflect only the percentage for the other family members. So, if there are four of you, you remove 25% of all of the numbers on the 1095-A and enter 75% of the totals. Then indicate that the coverage was shared with someone else and enter your son's information.
Then your son would need to add the percentage to his tax return that shows his coverage. Either way he had coverage through the marketplace all year even if he did not need it.
It is too late to change the way you handled this ---- bu going forward-- when you have marketplace health insurance your are supposed to tell them asap if anything changes for anyone enrolled in the plan--including whether they are making more money, got other insurance, etc.
From Healthcare.gov:
If you're enrolled in a Marketplace plan and your income or household changes, update your application as soon as possible.
These changes — like higher or lower income, adding or losing household members, or getting offers of other health coverage — may affect the coverage or savings you’re eligible for. After you finish applying or enrolling, you may be asked to submit documents to confirm your income.
