Someone prepared me taxes for me using Turbotax. Now they are not available. How do I open the document without software?

What file do you have?  Is it a .tax2020 File?  Ask them also for a pdf file.  Did they use the Desktop program on their computer or set up an online account?

Yes, it is a .tax2020 file. My preparer is not available. I am trying to open the file myself.

The only way to open it is to buy and install the 2020 program.

Then After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
