So, this is the first year I have did my taxes. I am 17 and I got a return from the taxes I paid from work. I filed, I believe as an independent. But my mother is trying to claim me under her taxes. D

I pay over half bills and support myself some.

Is her return rejecting because you claimed yourself?  She will have to print and mail her return this year.

You need to amend yours to not claim yourself.   She doesn't have to wait for your Amended return to process.

At the age of 17 you can be claimed as a dependent by your parent.  Paying a few bills and supporting yourself "some" does not make you independent, although what you did is a very common mistake made by young people filing first tax returns.

You need to amend your tax return and change the way you answered the question in My Info that asked if you can be claimed as someone else's dependent.  Your answer needs to be YES that you can be claimed. Your mom now cannot e-file her own return due to this mistake, which means she has to mail her return and her stimulus check may be delayed for months.

When your own return has been fully processed and you have received your tax refund  you can file a Form 1040X to amend.  It has to be mailed in--it cannot be e-filed.   Do not try to amend until you get your tax refund.    If you have received your refund, you can go ahead and amend.  Your mother should not try to wait for you to amend--that takes months -- she cannot e-file at all this year.

How do I amend my 2019 TurboTax Online return?

A 1040X cannot be e-filed.  It must be printed and mailed.  It will take about 4 months for the IRS to process an amended return.  It is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it, like UPS or certified mail, so you will know it was received.

Wait about 3 weeks from mailing and you can check the status of your amended return:
