Thanks for your response! So would get 1100? Or 600
If it should have been $600 they you would get the additional $100. You can use the link provided below to assist you with how the math works on amendments:
How does the refund math work on amendments
First ... do NOT amend the return before you have received the original refund !!!
Then look at the form 1040X …
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
ugh. what if I already did fax the correct information 😩
@A31 Amended returns cannot be faxed. Amended returns must be printed, signed and mailed after you prepare your Form 1040X. Amended returns can only be mailed. It is suggested that it be mailed certified with return receipt (or other tracking service) to verify that the IRS receives it. You can check the status of the amended return here, but allow 3 weeks after mailing.
How do I track my amend status?
