Rip off! Scam!

You would think after what everyone  went through during Covid-19 that these financial matters wouldn’t be a problem. That people who work for these tax companies would provide the best service and integrity to tax payers. I have expenses plus a new born baby and frankly, TurboTax & SGBT could care less. I absolutely need my money as I am missing roughly $3500 from my federal state tax. I’ve dialed the 800 number to check the status unsuccessfully getting a hold of a representative. Infuriated to say the least.  Rip off, scam, misinformation, will not use intuit/turbo tax ever again. Taking measures to an investigation.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

MY REFUND WAS LESS THAN I EXPECTED

There can be a number of reasons why your refund was less than the amount you expected. First of all, look carefully at your actual tax returns.  There is sometimes confusion about the amount of refund to expect when users misinterpret the “summary” they saw in TurboTax. The amount of your refund is on your tax return.  Federal refund is on line 35a on Form 1040  State tax forms are all different so we cannot tell you what line to look at on your state form.  BUT it is important to actually LOOK at your tax return forms yourself and see the amounts of your tax refunds and/or tax due.  A lot of confusion would be avoided by doing that.

Be aware also that your Federal refund and state refund do NOT come together.  Federal and state tax returns are processed by two completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come first,

It is also possible that your state reduced your refund for debts owed in your state—if the state reduced your state refund you will receive a letter from the state.

Does the IRS site show that your refund was issued in the amount you expected?  Or did the IRS reduce your refund?

NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax.   TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.

@xmasbaby0  First off, I appreciate the response and the links provided. Secondly, I normally file my own taxes resulting in zero errors; funds deposited and available within a week of e-filing! As a full time mom, I was willing to pay for “convenience” this time around to take the load off. When I say I will not be utilizing the turbo tax (so called) expert service again I mean it because at the end of the day funds are still delayed and that’s the issue I’m focusing on here and this is the information people need to know before putting their hard earned money into these type of services.

I get fed/state are separate entities however, based on my experience, federal tax usually comes first.  Not to mention I always look at my full tax return ( every line) so that I know exactly what to expect  (it’s simple math not trigonometry.) The last thing a person wants to do is NOT read his/her returns. We have to be a bit more solution oriented and less presumptive. This was a complete waste of time. Now I have to spend more time dealing with obstacles to retrieve funds owed to me. To anyone reading, please choose a professional accountant you trust or DO YOUR OWN TAXES.

IRS has decided to hold a lot of tax returns for review this year.

It's not just TurboTax.

Rip off! Scam!

Revise your W-4 withholding so that you are not loaning $3500 a year to the government. Put the money into a savings account and collect interest on it.  You will never need to wait on a return again.

Rip off! Scam!

I agree 100% they were supposed to take money out of my refund for payment didn't and let my child support take it and said I owed them in full. So how for the first ever using their service did it not deduct and the value was about 100$ more then what I was shown at check out.  I am calling shortly and snapping on them IDC I'm done being scammed by them they never even paid out fully for the last lawsuit so **bleep** them.

Rip off! Scam!

@bertinoant If you owed delinquent child support, the IRS seized your federal refund for the child support you owed before the third party bank that handles refund processing even saw a penny.   TurboTax never knows if you owe debts like back taxes or child support---but it is highly likely that YOU knew you owed child support.  Sorry, when you chose to use "refund processing" you signed an agreement that said if the IRS delayed your refund or offset you refund, you would still have to pay for your TurboTax fees and that those fees could be taken out of your own bank account.

Rip off! Scam!

I been waiting for my taxes since February 14,2024. I contacted my bank and they said they rejected my refund because it was coded as a business transaction. I was told to contact the irs. I contacted the irs 3 months prior and they told me they haven’t received my money back from my bank it went back into my tax provider account which means it went back to turbo tax. I can’t even speak to a person about my refund n I have to wait 90-120 days for them to complete a trace on my check they said they sent out too me. I’m never using turbo tax again

Rip off! Scam!

@Shaysha TurboTax does not receive any kind of tax refund, federal or state.

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.

For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/
