Received IRS Letter for missing signature and requesting Schedule A

I received a Form 3531 requesting signature on my 2021 tax returns and a request for Schedule A to explain the total deduction of $25,700.  I filed a Form 1040.

Since 2021 was the year of the special on the top charitable contribution for standard deduction (married filed jointly, took line 12a the deduction of $25,100, and then line 12b, $600 due to bi-weekly payroll deduction of $36 to United Way), do I *NEED* to submit a Schedule A??

In reading, Schedule A is only required if you itemized deduction, which I did not.  I took the standard + on the top $600 charitable.

No.  Just send them a letter explaining what you did.  Include a copy of your 1040, highlighting the Standard deduction and the extra $600, as well as proof of the United Way deductions.
