It depends on which version of TurboTax you are using. To change a 2024 tax return, you can do it differently if you use the online version or the desktop/download version.
Thank you. I used TurboTax Premier Desktop.
Did exactly what you outline.
Only change 1 lines in 1099INT section and reduce the number by 908.
1040X generated shows the amended column with the new AGI (reduced by 908) and tax liability, but the original column show an incorrect AGI and total refund.
Is there anything else that I need check?
It depends. Did you enter the reduction in the original return or after you began amending the return? Go to the forms mode and delete the 1040X.
Now go to your original return to make sure all of the original entries are there, which includes the correct refund amount. Now perform steps 4-7 and enter the corrected 1099 INT. Close your program and then reopen it just to make sure the changes have been updated.
If the same result happens, here is possibly why the discrepancy. TurboTax amendments are not available for print or efile until 2-18. Even though the 1040X is available in your forms, it may not be processing the information correctly. Wait until after that date to prepare your amendment. This will ensure your 1040X is processing the information correctly in all columns on the 1040X.
Hi. Waited till 3/3/26. Open 2024 efiled return from desktop. Redo the amend for 1099INT.
Still cannot efile.
TT still not generate 1040x correctly.
a) The 1040X form column A (original) line 1 does not have the original AGI, and
b) line 6 does not show the original tax liability.
c) Line 18 does not have the original refund amount as well.
I go to the form format and manually fix the original column for line 1 and 6. Also change line 18 manually,
Now I wonder is this will propagate to the state (CA my case) correctly for the CA amended return.
I believe you mean you made the changes to your federal return so it reflects what was reported on the original return. If so, you still may need to go through the state return and answer any pertinent questions until you get that return back to it's original state. Then you can do the amended return routine.
thanks
