My mortgage company forgot to pay my real estate taxes last year

They were paid at the beginning of Feb 2017 for last year.  Can I claim them on this year's tax return or do I have to wait and claim them for tax year 2017 (which would include taxes from 2016 that were paid in feb of 17 and the taxes that will be paid at the end of 2017)

Real estate taxes are deductible in the year that those taxes are paid. You will need to deduct the taxes on your 2017 tax return.
