If your user name is also your phone number, you should change it.  This is a public site that is visible to anyone including scammers and identity thieves who would love to call you and pretend to be from TurboTax.

I need to file my 2017 tax return. I have already downloaded the 2017 tax file from Turbo Tax, but when I open it, it just says "Amend" 2017 return. I paid $119.99 to be able to file it and I need to start from the beginning not amend.

Did you purchase and download the 2017 Home & Business Edition from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

If so, when you install the software the program should prompt you for a New Tax Return not an amended return.

In TurboTax Free Edition, you can purchase PLUS to unlock your prior-year .tax file.

The exact instructions will vary depending on the status of your 2018 TurboTax Online return (select one):

• I haven't started a 2018 return yet
• I started a 2018 return but haven't filed it yet
• I've already filed my 2018 return

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

You can also get free transcripts of your federal return from the IRS - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Hello.  I am trying to file a prior year's return but I have moved to a new address.  What address should I enter in the tax form itself?  In the "Personal Information" section I put my current address but inside the tax filing itself, don't I have to put the address I lived in that year?

The mailing address you enter is where you currently live and where you receive your mail in case the IRS ever needed to contact you via mail.

You do not enter the address where you used to live when completing a prior year tax return.  In the Personal Info section you are asked to enter your state of residence as of the last day of the year for the year of the tax return and if you lived in or worked in any other state during the year of the tax return.

Need to prepare a prior year return? Go here instead.

First, make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as in prior years. Otherwise, the below instructions won't work.

If you're signing in for the first time this year, we may ask you some questions before you get to the Tax Home screen where you can access your prior year returns. 

To get your prior year return:

1. Sign in to your TurboTax account here if you're haven't already.
2. Select Documents from the left menu. 
3. Use the drop-down menu to choose the tax year you want and then select Download tax PDF.
