Overypayed Amended Taxes

Had to Amend my tax return for 2017 and I now owe the IRS. I set up an installment agreement to pay the debt I owe a while back and forgot about it. Its been three months since then, and I checked my IRS account and bank account a week ago to see that the IRS still haven't charged me for the monthly installation payment. Decided to just pay everything on my credit card and thought that was the end of it. But today I found out they finally charged me for the installation agreement. What should I do now? Do I have to call the IRS to address the overpayment and cancel the installation agreement?

Yes, you will need to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to address your overpayment and cancel the installment agreement you have made with them.

Due to the amount of paperwork they have to handle, it generally takes the IRS 6-8 weeks to handle anything. Depending on how busy they are, it can take longer.
