My refund date has passed with no refund, and the IRS site now says "refund being processed" and it used to say the same date as TurboTax, which was March 19. Help!

The IRS issues most refunds from e-filed returns in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.

To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site. You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status.

For some taxpayers, PATH Act requirements and other identity-protection safeguards implemented by the IRS may account for longer wait times.

Other things that can delay your refund include, but are not limited to:

  • Liens, back taxes, or refund offsets
  • Errors, inconsistencies, or missing information
  • Identity fraud
  • Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, which can take 11-14 weeks to process

Also, if you chose direct deposit, your financial institution may need another day or two to post the refund to your account, so keep that in mind.

NO this answer is NOT helpful. This is exactly what it says on the cookie cutter answers on the IRS website. I pay you guys a LOT of money for better answers than this. And, stupid me, I pay you every year now for help and guidance.

@gigi050712, I do understand your frustration with not receiving your refund just yet. The IRS issues refunds, not TurboTax. This means that we can't say for sure why you haven’t received your refund if it's been longer than 21 days since you e-filed. Once your return has been accepted, TurboTax receives no further updates as to your refund status. In this instance, it is best to reach out to the IRS to see what is going on with your refund.
