I filed an amended 2019 return by mail 10 months ago and I’ve heard nothing from the IRS. Can I instead e file my amended return even though I’ve already mailed it?

I’ve checked the recommended IRS website to see if they’ve received it, but they still have no record of my amended return.

It will be a long time before your amended return is processed or any status information is available. The IRS processing centers were closed for several months because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and they did not process any mailed tax returns, including amended returns. They are just now starting to open the mail and process the mailed tax returns, but they have reduced staff and a huge backlog. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do but wait.
