I don't understand why I got a letter from the IRS saying I owe money from 2018 taxes

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows about the letter you got from the IRS.  You have provided no details at all.  Without any of your personal information like SSN, email, etc.--what does the letter say?  Is it for your 2018 return?  What did they change on the return?  Is there a letter number or CP number on the letter?

Did you have a tax due they didn't get or did they change your return so you owe more? The letter should say more details.  If you don't understand then you need to call the IRS and ask them.

I don't understand why I got a letter from the IRS saying I owe money from 2018 taxes

I received a letter, CP2000,  that says I owe $9267 in additional tax for 2018.  I need to demonstrate that taxes were withheld on my W2 .  This additional income was due to stock options through my company.  The income was also reported by my etrade account.    I need access to my 2018 tax form and W2.

You can get a copy of your 2018 return but TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2.  You are supposed to save your own W-2's for your records for at least three years.

I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2  (or 1099)

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s).   You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $86).

To get a copy of a W-2 from Social Security https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS:  It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received.  It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

Or you can pay the IRS $50 for an actual copy of your tax return which will include copies of your W-2’s

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

TurboTax does not receive any information from the IRS or your state after your return was filed, so no one at TurboTax knows about a letter you received from the IRS or the state.

AUDIT SUPPORT

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.   At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".  Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter.  Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

What you probably did is ONLY entered the W-2  and  NOT also the 1099-B from the broker showing the trade ... look at the notice carefully ... is that what they changed ?

Look at the 1099-B form  ... on the sale  did they report any cost basis on the sale ?
