Current year Taxes owed can never be paid from a current year tax refund, federal or state.
In the File section of the program on Step 2 you were given several options on how to pay the federal taxes owed. Paying from the state tax refund was Not one of those options.
Look at the Federal Filing Instructions page using Print Center for how you chose to pay the federal taxes.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2020 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
while you can't apply the refund from one return to another. if the IRS has instituted an offset program it can take your state refund. however, I've never seen where this happens for the current year's returns. it can occur when there are amounts owing for prior years. however, in this situation, the IRS would have sent you notices that you owe and what will happen if you don't pay.
